Same Sex Relationship Entitlements Mirror Marriage Rights in Victoria
John Brumby has posed a change in laws which also benefits same sex couples within the state of Victoria. Does that mean other states will follow? Nobody knows just yet, though it may simply mean same sex couples all move to Victoria and we have a state with majority of gay couples. Each to their own I say.
I personally think it great that Brumby is viewing a more socially acceptable light to what is now and not simply continuing with past thinking styles, or the older generation perceptions. The proposed change to laws next year, 2008, will mean same sex couples can still not marry, however; they will be able to register their relationship as a relationship will be bring them the same entitlements as hetro-sexual couples now surrounding medical, property and insurance entitlements.
Same sex couples adopt children, yet they cannot get family insurance because their relationship is not recognised. Under new laws this would change, thus allowing them to get the same reduced rate family insurance entitlements as a hetro-sexual family currently do so.
Personally.... I think its a great move towards a more socially equal future within Victoria. Well done Brumby.
