Australian Federal Election Looming - 1 Week Out
Well, we're about to go too the polls once again, though this time it looks certain government will be changing. I am a Liberal supporter myself, though I listen to all policies and vote appropriately based on that. I have not always voted Liberal, because they simply have not always had the best policies.
Labor is pretty much conclusive to win from current polls, although that is never definitive until election day itself and the votes are counted. Who they poll and who actually changes their mind, makes up their mind or simply swings carefree is never truly known.
Personally I don't trust either John Howard or Kevin Rudd much at all, though it put me off knowing Howard is going to retire if he wins and hand over to the treasurer, Peter Costello. Not a fan of the man myself, though I do acknowledge he is one very smart man with running the countries money. He has done a lot of good for this country, even though many can only see what is happening for themselves, the country overall is much better off than under any past Labor government yet.
See what happens I guess. The most recent policy updates are out though at news.com.au.

Designated leaders
I don't like to vote for a party when I know the leader is going to retire. I prefer an elected leader to a designated leader. Designated leaders rarely get re-elected in Canada. We've had 12 designated prime ministers out of 22 and only 2 were re-elected.
I don't know enough about Australian politics to make a decent comment, I will have to do more research. I did read the party platforms briefly though and I think I would probably be voting Labor as I consider myself a socialist, though I would never vote for the Green Party. I voted for Canada's socialist party in our last election. My parents vote Liberal though, Newfoundland is traditionally very Liberal.
I must have to agree with
I must have to agree with you on that Evie, as whilst I support the Liberal party generally, I am hesitant this time voting for John Howard who is to only step down if elected and hand over the reins to Peter Costello. I would not vote for Peter Costello if he was running, because I don't trust the man at all.
I think all Governments become stale, which is a shame. It is though we must rotate them in order to keep them motivated. When one party is in too long, they become lazy and fat, they get sloppy and try to bullshit the public instead of continuing to do the very things that got them elected in the first place.
Economies can be stabilized, Work Choices has proven that here in Australia, yet beyond that they become lazy, arrogant and choose to BS the very people who put them in power to begin with. Go figure....
